However, foreign competition is expected to increase, primarily in export-oriented producers in Asia and the Middle East.

U.S. Industry & Trade Outlook believes that selling to end-use markets (indicating products that can be of direct use by the final purchasing consumer) are a "key factor" for this industry. These companies are to date very over-reliant on their basic products of solvents and similar items, which are primarily sold to other manufacturing companies that use these materials in their own products. In fact, 95 percent of the sales of this industry are for such basic products.
